​​Our clients in Surrey and Borders are urgently seeking to recruit a Locum Band 5 Registered Mental Health Nurses to join their Older Adults Acute Mental Health Ward.
Hours: 12 hour shifts consisting of 7am to 8pm, 7pm to 8am, 3 day shifts and 3 night shifts per week, must be willing to work day and night shifts.
Job Description
To lead the team on the ward (where designated nurse in charge) to ensure nursing interventions and actions are delivered in a timely manner on a daily basis to a high standard.
To include:
  • Taking and giving handover
  • Daily allocation of resources
  • Start of day reporting
  • Monitoring tasks for quality and completion
  • Escalation of issues to the appropriate person
Assist in ensuring effective discharge planning from point of admission
To include:
  • Referral to social services for each new admission (where no existing care manager)
  • Allocation of a CPN for each new admission (where no existing CPN)
  • Timely ordering of TTO’s
  • Notifying GP and CPN on discharge
Timely provision of actions required under the Mental Health Act/ Mental Capacity Act.
To include:
  • Receiving section papers
  • Provision of S132 rights
  • Assisting patients to appeal their sections
Ensure all patients have accurate up to date risk assessments
Act as named nurse for patients and ensure named patients have up to date/ regularly reviewed care plans which are person centred and include the patient’s views.
Assisting to ensure that newly admitted patients have all assessments completed within the prescribed timeframe (fulfilling admission checklist)
Ensure safe administration of medication in line with SABP policies.
Ensure enhanced observation levels are reviewed daily and the review is recorded in the patient’s notes giving reasons for changes/ not changing the level.
Ensure all patients and relatives/ carers are treated with compassion, dignity and respect.
